The most authentic Japanese food in Semarang. If you want to taste true Japanese food and cuisine, this is the place to go. Maishin Izakaya offers a cozy high-end dining experience with a wide variety of Japanese food ranging from sushi, sashimi, yakitori, and many more delicious dishes to try. The service still needs some work and is still quite slow, but overall, the staff are helpful and kind. First, I would like to mention about the food and beverages in Maishin Izakaya. Sadly, there are a lot of dishes that are not available yet, but everything that I have tried so far is really good. The rolls are simple yet delicious, there is a wide variety of sashimi which are all fresh and taste exquisite. I highly recommend trying out their yakitori and their signature dishes such as the roasted bone marrow, and bone marrow porridge. The cost is on the higher end of Semarang's price range and far more than dining at Sushi Tei or Gion The Sushi Bar, but it is unquestionably worthwhile and reasonable given the standard and quality of the food provided at Maishin. Maishin Izakaya provides a range of soft drinks and tea, but I highly recommend trying their ocha. Additionally, I have heard from someone that they will be providing alcohol such as sake, vodka, gin, and many more, but as of right now, they only have a few cocktails. Overall, I would give them a 5/5 for their food and beverage quality. Secondly, I would like to mention about the atmosphere. Maishin provides a cozy, minimalistic, and chic atmosphere. No matter day or night, I love the atmosphere that Maishin Izakaya has. Maishin plays a variety of music ranging from jazz, to lounge music, and music that I would call Japanese jazz rap. If I had a say about the music, and the admin of the restaurant would consider my opinion, I think playing Japanese jazz fusion music from bands such as Casiopea, T-Square, Bohemianvodoo and playing Japanese City pop from artists such as Miki Matsubara, Mariya Takeuchi, etc. would fit with the physical atmosphere of the restaurant. Again, overall, I would give them a 5/5 for their atmosphere. Lastly, I would like to mention about the service. The service still requires improvement and is slow. I had to wait for someone to fetch my order yesterday for twenty minutes. Nevertheless, once they get your order, they process your order quickly and well. However, I would like to mention that sometimes tea refills in this restaurant are long even though there are waiters that walk around asking if you want refills. Also, sometimes the cold ocha is not available. I would also like to mention that sometimes wasabi is forgotten on the dishes and that you have to ask for wasabi from the waiters. Despite this, the waiters are still kind and attentive to your needs. They truly appreciate it when they ask for your feedback and suggestions for improvement. This restaurant would receive a perfect five stars if the staff continued to improve, which is something I hope they do. With this said, I would give them a 3.5/5 for their service. In Conclusion, Maishin is probably one of the best, if not the best Japanese restaurants in Semarang when it comes to true authentic Japanese food. The dining experience is great and I would definitely come back for more. I would still give them a 5 star rating for the restaurant overall even though I only gave them 4 stars for service because the wait times for the meals are still generally short.
